Man shot at in suspected property dispute
Mumbai: A 38-year-old man, who was entering a restaurant near Dockyard railway station, was shot at by an unidentified shooter. The victim, Sameer Shaikh, sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was rushed to JJ . He is said to be the son of Asif Shaikh alias Asif Dadhi, an alleged former member of the Dawood gang.
The firing incident was reported around 6.15 pm Dockyard Road in Byculla, police said. “The injured person, Sameer Asif Shaikh, sustained a single bullet injury but is currently out of danger. Further investigation and processes are underway,” said police.
“It seems a property or money dispute. We are working on the case and will soon nab the accused,” said a senior IPS officer.
The area outside the restaurant where the firing took place was cordoned off. Police teams and crime branch personnel were making. The CCTV cameras were also scanned.
On Feb 13, 2010, two people were shot dead near Bhendi Bazaar while two others were injured. Asif Khan alias Asif Dadhi, now 56, a former Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) detainee, and a daily wage labourer, Gangubai, were injured in the firing by unidentified assailants, while two others died. The police then said it was a case of gang war.
The attack on Asif Dadhi occurred outside the Phool Gali mosque near Null Bazaar. The victims were sitting and chatting in the lane when at least three persons rode in on motorcycles and shot at them.
A resident of Princess at JJ Junction, Asif Dadhi, who ran a garment shop, was arrested by the crime branch in 1999 under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and again in 2001 for another offence. In the first case, Dadhi was acquitted by the court and in the second case, he was discharged.
