Mumbai crime branch begins probe in Mann Ki Baat magazine con case

MUMBAI: The crime branch has begun a probe into a cheating case against the editor in chief of a magazine and some other office bearers for allegedly duping a 49-year-old man of Rs4,001.
The complainant told the police that the accused were seeking funds to publish a book based on PM Narendra Modi's speeches in Mann Ki Baat.
The case was registered on Friday at the Goregaon police station and investigation was taken over by the city crime branch.Those mentioned as accused in the FIR allegedly misused Modi's name and were collecting funds for the book. They allegedly stated that the book will be launched in New Delhi by President Drupadi Murmu. The accused through social media platforms stated that the book will contain the selected speeches of Mann ki Baat.
Complainant Keshav Singh, told police that he had given Rs 4,001 for the book and later realised it could be a scam and lodged the complaint. "The accused sought money for the book. We are checking their bank accounts," said senior inspector Vinayak Chavan of crime branch. Police suspect that the accused could have collected money from more people.
