Mumbai: Crime branch detains 25-year-old for stabbing fruit seller over monetary dispute

Police said that Qureshi had some dispute with the deceased, Babuji Qureshi, 55, over the payment of buying and selling fruits.

MUMBAI: The city crime branch detained a 25-year-old man, Sohrab Qureshi, for allegedly stabbing a 55-year-old fruit seller to death at Null Bazar in south Mumbai. The incident took place on Saturday morning. Police said that Qureshi had some dispute with the deceased, Babuji Qureshi, 55, over the payment of buying and selling fruits.
He allegedly stabbed Babuji and his son Chhotu Qureshi, 30, with a knife. Babuji died. Chhotu is under treatment at the JJ Hospital. The murder took place on the road in the market area at around 9.40 am on Saturday. After stabbing the father-son duo the accused fled from the spot. The crime branch team led by inspector Vinayak Chavan got a tip-off about the accused and detained him from Malvani. He was handed over to JJ Marg police station where a murder case was registered.
