New Year travel rush causes heavy traffic on Mumbai-Goa highway
MUMBAI: Traffic congestion has intensified on the Mumbai-Goa highway as New Year revellers head towards their destinations, compounded by ongoing road works, according to police authorities.
The surge in vehicles travelling to Goa and Alibaug in Maharashtra's Raigad district has resulted in significant traffic jams on Monday at Lonere, Mangaon and Indapur Poinad near Mumbai.
The current construction activities along various stretches have created additional bottlenecks, further slowing down traffic movement.
Police officials, including highway patrol and local units, are working diligently to manage and ease the traffic congestion, the official said.
