MUMBAI: A police officer familiar with the investigation into Kharghar woman Meenakshi Jaiswal’s murder last week said on Tuesday that Surendra Kumar Batra, one of the four arrested men, was the employer of the others, Vinayak Chavan, Maninder Bajwa and Suraj Jaiswal.
The officer also said that Batra was the key conspirator along with Chavan. It was believed till now that Chavan was the key conspirator and the others executed the crime.
The officer said that the victim had given a loan to a person for whom Batra and Chavan had mediated and stood guarantors.
“It is when she demanded repayment that Batra and Chavan felt it necessary to murder her to avoid repaying her loan,” the officer said. “The duo was aware that the woman lived alone and possessed a lot of gold. They planned the crime and engaged two men, Bajwa and Suraj Jaiswal, to execute it.”
