Water taxi services connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai were inaugurated virtually by Union minister Sarbanand Sonwal and Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray from Belapur Jetty — KK Choudhary (TOI)

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, ministers Aslam Shaikh and Eknath Shinde flagged off the water taxi services from Belapur Jetty — KK Choudhary (TOI)

Belapur Jetty project, which commenced in January 2019 and was completed by September 2021, has been developed under the Sagarmala Programme.

The water taxi services will connect the nearby locations at Nerul, Belapur, Elephanta island, and JNPT among others.

The water taxi will connect for the first time, the twin cities of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai reducing the commute time between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai by around 45 minutes — KK Choudhary (TOI)

The passenger services will initially start from Domestic Cruise Terminal at Ferry Wharf in Mumbai to Belapur via JNPT — KK Choudhary (TOI)

Fare for DCT- Belapur and DCT-JNPT routes, will be Rs 800 and Rs 550 respectively. A monthly pass to travel from DCT to Belapur will cost Rs 12,000 — KK Choudhary (TOI)

Transportation is an important part of development. Now water-taxi is being added to the existing facilities such as flyovers, metros, an extension of railways and subways in and around Mumbai, said chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
