MUMBAI: Rail traffic was badly affected due to heavy rains in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, resulting in cancellation, partial cancellation and diversion of several trains since Sunday.
The first disruption occurred at 11pm on Sunday as Narmada river breached the danger mark between Bharuch and Ankaleshwar stations on Western Railway.
WR spokesperson said, “The water was flowing above the danger mark on bridge number 502 because of which train services were affected.
Services resumed gradually around 11.30am on Monday after water started to subside.”
This led to cancellation of many trains, including Vande Bharat Express, Tejas Express and August Kranti Rajdhani Express. There was also disruption on account of heavy rain in Ratlam-Godhra section. Track settlement incident was reported at KM No. 597 due to which trains operated only via the down line. As a result, several trains, including Avantika Express and Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express, were cancelled.
Authorities first announced Suryanagari Express would terminate at Vadodara due to which many passengers got off at Ahmedabad. Later, it was later extended till Bandra Terminus. tnn
