Two Arrested In Ulhasnagar Double Murder Firing Case; Hunt On For Other Accused
Ulhasnagar: Police arrested two accused in connection with the firing incident in Ulhasnagar’s Camp No. 5 area that left two brothers dead and another critically injured.
The accused, identified as Shekhar Tukaram Birajdar, 25, and Ajay Rao, 23, were nabbed from the Wangani-Shelu area by the Ulhasnagar Crime Branch Unit-IV following a tip-off, police said. The firing took place on Thursday evening at Kailash Colony over an old rivalry and alleged extortion-related disputes. The assailants allegedly shot nearly seven rounds near the public relations office where Shiv Sena leader Deepak Thakur was sitting with his friends.
In the attack, brothers Anil Chauhan, 22, and Aman Chauhan, 17, sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar, where doctors declared them brought dead. Their uncle, Arjun Chauhan, suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
Police said the accused gang included Shekhar Birajdar, Balveer Birajdar, Ajit Sheikh, Adalat Baddin Khan, Ajay Rao and four to five unidentified associates. A case was registered at Hill Line police station based on Thakur’s complaint. Police said Anil Chauhan earlier filed a complaint against Balveer and Shekhar Birajdar over a parking-related dispute. On April 28, the accused allegedly assaulted Chauhan at his residence with wooden sticks.
Crime Branch officials tracked down the accused using CCTV footage and technical surveillance. During interrogation, police found that Shekhar Birajdar was already out on bail in a murder case registered at Shivaji Nagar police station, while both arrested accused have rioting cases registered against them.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior police inspector Yogesh Awhad by a team led by PSI Ashok Pawar. Police said efforts are underway to trace the remaining absconding accused.
