Two booked for assault on ex-witness

MUMBAI: The Meghwadi police are looking for two men—Pravin Gavkar and Deepak Sawant —who attacked one, Amol Shinde, as he was a panch witness in a criminal case filed against one of them in the past. They have been booked for assault.
Shinde had witnessed a chain-snatching incident two years ago, in which Sawant had been involved. Shinde was a panch witness in the case and also deposed in court.Sawant was eventually convicted in the case.
On Saturday night, Sawant and Gavkar accosted Shinde in Jogeshwari (E). They had an argument following which the duo hit Shinde on the back of his head and slashed his hands with a chopper. The duo was also angry that Sawant was having a relationship with a woman who stayed in their neighbourhood, police said.
