MUMBAI: Two women who had gone to collect their kids from the school in Wadala were seriously injured when a untrained teenage boy driving quails jeep at a high speed hit them opposite the school in Wadala on Wednesday morning. The members of public caught the teenage driver and his colleague and handed over to Matunga police.
Police said the driver identified as Ravi Aware doesnot possess a driving license and was driving the without the knowledge of owner of the vehicle.
Matunga police have summoned the owner of the vehicle and grilled him as to why he handed over the vehicle to Aware. The two injured women have been identified as Shabana Siddiqui (40) and Saina Shaikh (28) have been rushed to
Sion hospital and recuperating said police. Police have arrested Ravi Aware under the IPC sections of rash and negligence and under the motor vehicle act.
According to police, the Siddiqui is a resident of Sewree and Shaikh resident of Antop hill Wadala and both of them had gone to collect their wards studying in SIWS school when the accident took place. It was around 12 noon when the two were crossing the road to collect their children when, the accused hit his quails jeep.
"Siddiqui and Shaikh were crossing the road to collect their kids and were crossing the road and luckily the kids were not there otherwise the accident would have been worst. Immediately after the accident the accused tried to flee from the scene when the members of public stopped the jeep and overpowered the driver and his friend and handed over to police." Said S Landge, investigating officer.
The member of public in the fit of rage beat duo and handed over to Matunga police station. "The owner of the vehicle says that accused Aware is his friend. Aware told him that he wanted to sit inside the car and hence he innocently handed over the keys to Aware who along with his friend drove the vehicle knowing very well that he will not be able to drive and hence we are also applying him with motor vehicle act.." said Balu Kakad senior inspector of Matunga police station. Kakad said that they are also examining whether they can book the owner of the vehicle for handing the keys to a untrained person.
Meanwhile, Siddiqui and Shaikh are undergoing CT scan to find if their fractures and injuries are severe.
