CNC demands autonomy for Kodavas on Republic Day
Madikeri: Codava National Council (CNC) activists staged a dharna in front of the DC office on Sunday during Republic Day, seeking the Union govt to protect the indigenous Kodava community's rights and dignity.
The CNC president, NU Nachappa, submitted a memorandum to the district officials, which was addressed to the President, PM, and the Secretary General of the United Nations.
The organisation appealed for the establishment of Kodava land and geo-political autonomy. The activists stated that throughout their history, the Kodavas developed a unique social and cultural identity. As guardians of Kodava land, they established a distinctive character and dignity in their homeland, they stated.
The CNC requested the govt to safeguard the indigenous Kodava community's rights and dignity.
