MADIKERI: In under two days of valuables to the tune of Rs 10 lakh being stolen from a Mumbai-based entrepreneur staying at a resort in Kodagu. Police arrested two individuals who were involved in the theft, and recovered all the stolen loot, including cash and jewellery from the duo. Kodagu district superintendent of police lauded the efforts and efficiency of the cops who solved the case in such quick time during an interaction with the media in Madikeri on Monday.
Mumbai-based businessman Balakrishna Bhandari, the brother of MLC Manjunath Bhandari, arrived at the Ival Back Resort in Karadigodu near Siddapur around 11am on Saturday. He had booked two rooms at the resort, and had stored jewellery and cash, cumulatively worth Rs 10 lakh, in a safety locker at the establishment.
After having checked in, the family ventured outside their rooms, returning only around 10pm on Saturday. He was shocked when he found that the locker was broken into, and the cash and jewellery stolen. In addition to valuables, an iPad and many of his important documents were stolen. Kodagu SP Aiyappa, deputy SP Gajendra Prasad, on learning of the theft, constituted a special team under the leadership of circle inspector Venkatesh and sub-inspector Medappa (District Crime Records' Bureau).
The cops wasted little time in springing to action, and their quick work resulted in the arrest of 31-year-old Pradeep, a resident of Guhya village who worked at the Woodstock Villa, and Sharath, 30, a driver from the same village. Pradeep had reportedly worked at the resort earlier, police said.
