MYSORE: Mysore Athletic Club in association with Vidya Vikas Educational Trust honoured outstanding athletes of the year 2010-11. Promising athlete Reena George who represented Karnataka in junior cadre was adjudged Best Athlete of the Year 2010-11.
After felicitating the athletes and journalists at University of Mysore Sports Complex here on Saturday, SA Ramdas, district in-charge and medical education minister assured the athletes that synthetic track will be laid at the Chamundivihar Stadium at the earliest.
A ground breaking ceremony will be held on November 1 for laying synthetic track. He also called upon the athletes to strive hard to attain success in life.
Vasu, former mayor and Congress leader, who presided over the function also stressed the minister for early laying of synthetic track at Chamundivihar Stadium. International athlete D David Premnath who is also Selection Committee chairman said, "If Mysore had a synthetic track, more national-level competitions could be conducted."
Outstanding athletes: Shraddha Rani S Desai, FK Apsana, Be Bi Sumaya, SL Swathi, K Yashaswini, KR Meghana, Pavithra, C Navyashree, SG Pushpa, Athira Varkey, Shahejahani, PB Sumitra, K Sharmila, S Sushma, Thippavva Sannaki, S Ramyashree, KP Sumanth, J Mahendra Rao, M Puneeth and Manjunatha and SAK athletic coach Damodara Gowda while journalist MS Sriram, G Sudhendra Kumar and R Uday Kumar were felicitated for their contribution in sports.
