The government, in association with JSS Urban Haat, will organize Special Handloom Expo-Samskruthi-2016 at JSS Urban Haat from March 24 to April 7, between 10am and 9pm daily. Around 140 artistes from across the country, including national-award winners, will display their products.

Mysuru: The government, in association with JSS Urban Haat, will organize Special Handloom Expo-Samskruthi-2016 at JSS Urban Haat from March 24 to April 7, between 10am and 9pm daily. Around 140 artistes from across the country, including national-award winners, will display their products.
JSS Urban Haat in Hebbal ropes in weavers from across the country for the festival, which aims at acknowledging their role in fashion who otherwise are ignored.

The expo also provides an opportunity for Mysureans to choose from a wide range of handloom products.
Project officer M Shivananja Swamy said that the expo gives a great opportunity for the people of Mysuru and tourists to shop for clothes at reasonable prices. The exhibits include saris, stoles, dress materials, shawls, kurtas and kurtis. Karnataka silk saris, Kanjivaram silk saris from Tamil Nadu, Tussar silk saris from Bihar, Kantha stitch saris, Balachuri saris, boutique saris and dresses, Bengali cotton saris from West Bengal, Banaras saris and dress materials, chikan embroidery from Uttar Pradesh and Chanderi and Maheshwari saris from Madhya Pradesh, Bomkai, Ikkath, Sambalpuri saris from Orissa, Channapatna toys and wide range of terracotta articles, handicrafts and handloom items will be displayed.
Over 100 artistes will be provided free accommodation, the officer said, adding: "The number of artistes participating in the expo is increasing by the year. Mysuru retaining its Cleanest City tag for second consecutive year has also made many artistes come here. Overall, the response from artistes is good."
The event will be inaugurated by Baburao Chinchanasoor, minister for textiles, ports and inland transports. MP Prathap Simha will preside. N Virupakshappa, president of Cauvery Handlooms, Raju, commissioner for textiles, Jharappa G Molakeri, additional director, C S Yogesh, joint director, Muddaiah, managing director of Cauvery Handlooms, Jawaharlal Kunsoth, deputy director of Weavers' Service Centre (Bengaluru) will be present.
