21-year-old working with dad suffers HT electric shock, dies

Nagpur: Eleven days after receiving massive shock after coming in contact with a high tension wire and suffering over 65% burns, a 21-year-old man succumbed at Mayo Hospital on Thursday.

Ajay Meshram, a labourer, had gone for work along with his father Prahlad at the under-construction house of one Durgesh Dongre in Pawan Nagar in Wathoda when the incident happened.

According to police, on June 23, Ajay was moving long iron bars at the construction site when the rods touched the high tension wire passing over the site. He received massive shock and collapsed. Prahlad rushed Ajay to Mayo Hospital where he died during treatment on Thursday. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

“Ajay was my youngest son and he was loved by everyone due to his affable nature. It was the most tragic day of my life when I witnessed his electrocution.”

Prahlad had taken Ajay for the work along with another labourer. “He was taking the iron bars for installation when suddenly the rods touched the wire. There was big spark and Ajay was thrown away. He suffered severe burns and the clothes he was wearing also were burned,” added Prahlad while trying to control his tears.

“I screamed for help and with the help of others rushed Ajay to Mayo Hospital,” said Pralhad. Ajay was the youngest of Pralhad’s three son.

Nandanvan police have registered a case of accidental death and have started investigations.

Senior PI Vinayak Chavan said, “We have registered a case as accidental death. If any other facts come to the fore during investigations, proper action will be taken.”
