Cops launch crackdown on LPG, fuel hoarders

Nagpur: The city police on Wednesday swung into action against black marketeers under Essential Commodities Act.

Police officials stated that there is no shortage of domestic LPG, while commercial supplies are being rationed.

The cops are trying to ensure there is no hoarding or black marketing, with rumours about a crisis in domestic and commercial LPG, diesel, and other fuels hitting businesses following the West Asia war-triggered crisis.


From LPG cylinders to petrol and kerosene, officers are now combing godowns, warehouses, and shady offices — where illegal stocking thrived for years. Sources stated the crime branch raids, checks, and surprise inspections are happening daily.

Police suspect old kingpins may have resumed activities, hoarding cylinders in secret sheds, siphoning kerosene for resale, and even diverting petrol through fake bills.

The last 10 years' notorious cases — those fined, warned, or jailed — are under scrutiny again. "We are conducting searches and raids at every possible place based on records and also human intelligence inputs," said a crime branch official.
