Garbage dumping under Wadi Flyover goes unchecked
Nagpur: The area beneath the Wadi flyover has turned into a sprawling dumping ground, with mounds of garbage lining the adjoining service road and open spaces, exposing a glaring lack of civic sense and enforcement. The stretch has become an eyesore, with plastic waste, discarded household items, food packets, and other debris strewn across the stretch.Commuters passing through the busy corridor complain of a persistent foul odour. Despite the road beneath the flyover witnessing steady pedestrian and vehicular movement daily, there appears to be little deterrence against those who brazenly dump trash under its shadow.
"It is shameful that people treat public spaces like personal dumping yards," said Ramesh Tiwari, a shopkeeper operating near the service road. "The garbage keeps increasing every week. Even after occasional clean-ups, the waste returns within days. Without strict penalties, this problem will never end."Resident Asha Meshram echoed similar frustration. "Stray dogs scatter the garbage further onto the road. We are worried about infections and diseases. The authorities must install CCTV cameras and put up warning boards to scare offenders," she said.Another commuter, Imran Khan, pointed out the irony of cleanliness campaigns being publicised while such spots continue to deteriorate. "There are banners everywhere about keeping the city clean, but no monitoring on the ground. If someone is caught and fined publicly, others will think twice before dumping waste here," he remarked.Responding to the concerns, a senior official from the Wadi Municipal Council said that while the flyover itself does not precisely fall under the council's jurisdiction, the civic body would still take stringent steps to curb illegal dumping in the surrounding areas. "We will coordinate with the concerned department and increase monitoring. Necessary action will be initiated against those found violating sanitation norms," the official assured.
