Nagpur: Met department has issued warning for ‘heavy’ to ‘very heavy’ rainfall in Vidarbha for the next two days.
As per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, an increase in rainfall activity and its intensity is expected from Wednesday. The met office has issued an orange alert for Bhandara, Gondia and Gadchiroli districts for Thursday.
For Friday, an orange alert has been issued for Nagpur, Wardha and Amravati districts.
Heavy rainfall is expected to be accompanied with lightning and
thunderstorm in various parts of the region.
On Wednesday, the highest rainfall was recorded in Korchi, Gadchiroli, at 37.9 millimetre. Nagpur received 16.6mm rains on the same day.
RMC has issued an advisory for citizens, asking them to stay alert and safe during heavy rainfall and lightning. “Stay away from windows and doors during heavy rain and strong winds, and avoid roadway underpasses, drainage ditches, low lying areas and areas where water collects. Do not try to drive across a flooded road,” the department advised.
According to official data, monsoon will start withdrawing from Vidarbha by the end of September. The normal date for withdrawal from the region is October 15. TNN
