NAGPUR: A bid by Shubham Masurkar, 19, to earn some fast cash after kidnapping someone from a well-off family went wrong after he was caught by the victim’s uncle who thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Masurkar is now behind the bars with Jaripatka police having slapped him with charges of kidnapping, robbery and extortion on Sunday.
Masurkar, who is addicted to drugs and has some criminal cases against him, whisked away 17-year-old
Mayank Sharma from Maya Nagar in Laghuvetan Colony in Jaripatka. Std XI student Mayank, whose family owns several liquor outlets and bars in the city, had gone to a flour mill on his scooterette when the incident took place. Masurkar, who knew Mayank, threatened him with a knife to come along with him. The miscreant forced Mayank to sit pillion while he drove the youngster’s vehicle.
Police stated that Masurkar took Mayank to a desolate place near an old school beside Ashok Chowk. He snatched Mayank’s scooterette’s key and Rs 50 he had and issued him grave threats. Masurkar subsequently started demanding Rs 40,000-50,000 from Mayank. Police stated that Mayank somehow slipped away from the place, convincing Masurkar to return with the cash and kept back his scooterette as a guarantee of his word.
Mayank somehow managed to reach home with the help of his friends and alerted his family members. Mayank’s uncle Virendraprasad, accompanied by Mayank and others, reached the school to confront Masurkar who was waiting in anticipation to see the youngster return with cash. Virendraprasad then dragged Masurkar to Pachpaoli police station after thrashing him and later ensured that the culprit was handed over to Jaripatka police station as the incident had started from a place within their limits.
