Ujjwala and Anil Masram had a love marriage around a decade ago. After some time, Anil started suspecting Ujjwala of having a relationship with another person. Even after the birth of their son, Anshu, their equation remained edgy. Anil, who works as a labourer, would often allegedly thrash and abuse Ujjwala under the influence of alcohol.
Ujjwala's mother Chandraprabha Chaure said her daughter came to live with her at Verma layout around a year ago and also brought Anshu. "We admitted Anshu to a local school and my daughter took up cooking job at bungalows," she said.
Anil would often visit his mother-in-law's place and allegedly create ruckus in an inebriated condition. "One day, my son-in-law and one of his cousins took back Ujjwala and her son. Unable to bear the torture, my daughter returned again," she said.
Chandraprabha said Anil came to her house on Friday last week and took away Anshu with him when Ujjwala was not at home. "Since Anshu had to appear for examination, we went to Anil's home to bring him back. My son-in-law started hurling abuses and drove us out of the house. Later, he followed us wielding a bat and also threatened to approach police," said Chandraprabha, adding, "We tried to take shelter in a shanty but Anil barged inside and started thrashing us," Chandraprabha, who is undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital, said.
A passer-by saw the two bleeding women and alerted cops. Gittikhadan police reached the spot and rushed them to hospital. Anil was booked for assault before being rounded up.
