NAGPUR: As police zeroed in on a man they suspected to have killed his younger brother, they stumbled upon a grisly crime of passion. Amar Nagar resident Rajaram Bandewar (37) was nabbed in the wee hours of Thursday from Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. He had been missing since Monday when his wife reported that he had killed his younger brother
Radheshyam (34) and disposed of the body.
Rajaram confessed to killing Radheshyam (34) on Saturday for having illicit relationship with his wife Savitri. He told cops that he stabbed Radheshyam while the latter was asleep. All of Sunday, Rajaram left the body on the bed. On Sunday evening, he chopped it into four pieces and packed them in a sack. At midnight, he loaded the sack on his cycle's carrier and dumped it behind a factory in MIDC industrial estate.
On Thursday he led the cops to the body which has been seized. Investigating officer PSI S S Gholvi said Rajaram had no remorse. "Instead, he said he also planned to kill his wife but had to flee as police had learnt of the crime," said Gholvi. Rajaram told police that Radheshyam was having an illicit relationship with Savitri since three years. Though he always suspected it, it was confirmed only three months ago when Rajaram saw them in a compromising position.
"I had warned Radheshyam to stop it and get married but he ignored me. He continued the relationship," Rajaram told cops. On Saturday, he sent Savitri and his two children to her maternal house in Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh. In the evening, Rajaram questioned Radheshyam on his relationship and Radheshyam brazenly answered that it continued.
The brothers had a heated argument for an hour and later Rajaram left home in anger. "He came home drunk at midnight. "While Radheshyam was asleep in his room, Rajaram hit him on the head thrice with a rod. He then hacked his younger brother's neck with an axe," said Gholvi.
Savitri returned on Monday evening and finding Radheshyam missing she asked her husband but he scolded her and said that he had gone to a friend's house. On Tuesday morning while cleaning the house, Savitri saw the blood stains on walls and bed and that raised her doubts. On repeated questioning by Savitri, Rajaram told her the horrifying truth and threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone.
He then fled from home. Savitri's cries alerted the neighbours who informed the cops. But the police failed to find Radheshyam's body. Though Savitri had told them of the murder, MIDC police had not registered the case till Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Rajaram's cell phone helped police get his location. Police said the suspect had made the last call to his youngest brother Supnil to tell him he had killed Radheshyam and also warned him not to tell anyone. Later, Rajaram switched off the phone.
In the evening, he was repeatedly making calls to his wife from different numbers and threatening to kill her too. "We sent the numbers to cyber cell and trace the location," said Gholvi. Three teams of MIDC police were investigating at Hingna, Seoni and Amar Nagar. Finally, Rajaram was nabbed near Seoni bus stop. Police are yet to recover the weapons used.
