NEW DELHI/NAGPUR: Local authorities on Wednesday reported an incident in Nagpur city, Maharashtra, where a man is accused of murdering a vegetable vendor after a heated dispute arose over the vendor's placement of a stall in front of the former's cake shop.
The occurrence occurred on Tuesday night in the Bhavani Nagar area, falling within the jurisdiction of the Pardi police station, as reported.
The victim, identified as Prabhudayal Bhaiyyalal Sarate (40), and the alleged perpetrator, Gajanan Wadankar (36), were named by an official familiar with the case.
"Sarate used to put up his vegetable stall in front of Wadankar's cake shop. Wadankar wanted Sarate to shift his stall. However, the vegetable vendor refused to do so," PTI quoted him as saying.
In a fit of rage, Wadankar ferociously assaulted Sarate, striking his head with a piece of wood and causing the immediate death of the victim.
Upon observing Sarate lying motionless, Wadankar hurriedly transported him to a hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead, according to the official's statement.
After the demise of Sarate, the police apprehended the shopkeeper and filed charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder, as reported.
