Nashik: Altogether 125 two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers participated in the No Honking and Safe Driving competition, organised by the Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Tuesday.
The first three winners of the contest received prizes, in the two-wheeler and four-wheeler category, as none of the winners honked while driving safely through the city’s busy roads.
Apart from the three winners in the two-wheeler and four-wheeler category, the rest of the 30 contestants were given helmets as consolation prizes for practising safe driving.
The contest was flagged by the Regional Transport Officer Bharat Kalaskar in presence the commissioner of police Ravinder Kumar Singal.
Over 200 contestants participated in the competition on Monday.
The contestants were given busy route of around 15km and were judged on the lines of honking frequency, obeying the 40kmph speed limit and practising safe driving.
Winners in the two-wheeler category were Nilesh Kedare, Juned Shaikh and Kavitra Dhatrak, while those in the LMV category were Sanjit Gulab Thakur, Sushma Jadhav and Pallavi Darade.
A special prize was also given to a 72-year-old biker Govind Shahapurkar for taking part in the event and riding his bike safely through the 15-km stretch said deputy regional transport officer Vinay Ahire.
The prize distribution programme took place in the evening with winners getting prizes from Jalinder Supekar, the joint director of Maharashtra Police Academy. Hundreds of stickers of ‘Horn Not Ok Please’were pasted on the vehicles of participantsand others who attended the competition.
The RTO had deployed the same number of inspectors to check the frequency of honking by the contestants and safe driving practise.
