NASHIK: The
elections
to the chairperson and deputy chairperson posts of the education committee of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (
NMC
) are likely to be held sometime next week.
On Thursday, the office of the town secretary of the municipal corporation, wrote a letter to divisional commissioner Rajaram Mane. The town secretary urged Mane to conduct the elections for the posts of chairperson and deputy chairperson of the education committee.
“The elections are likely to be held on any day next week. The dates are to be declared in a day or two,” said an NMC official.
The general body of the municipal corporation had revamped the education committee that deals with the NMC schools.
City mayor Satish Kulkarni had declared the names of the nine new education committee members during the recent general body (GB) meeting of NMC. The tenure of existing nine members of the committee had ended in November 2019.
In the new nine-member committee, BJP has a majority with five members. The Shiv Sena, meanwhile, has three members on the committee. NCP has just one member on the committee.
The new nine members of the education committee includes Sangita Gaikwad, Sarita Sonawane, Shivaji Gangurde, Sahin Mirza and Mukesh Shahane — all from the BJP. Jayashri Kharjul, Chandrakant Khade and Suryakant Lawte from the Shiv Sena are also part of the committee as is Jagdish Pawar from the
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
