2000 cops deployed in Navi Mumbai, Raigad for New Year's Eve police bandobast
NAVI MUMBAI: In order to ensure that the citizens in Navi Mumbai and Raigad police jurisdiction usher in the New Year's Eve celebration without any untoward incident so that law and order is maintained, both the police commissionerate chiefs have taken preventive measures by beefing up police security.
Police commissioner Milind Bharambe has claimed that more than 1000 cops from 20 police stations in the two DCP zones and police headquarters have been deployed on the streets at strategic locations and nakabandi spots. Raigad SP Somnath Gharge informed that 109 police officers and 874 constables have been deployed across Raigad district, apart from 87 traffic cops and two Riot Control Police (RCP) teams. Both police chiefs have specially directed the senior cops of all police stations and traffic units to take stringent against drink-and drive for which breath analyzer kits have been provided to the traffic cops.
Police commissioner Milind Bharambe said, "The citizens of Navi umbai are being appealed not to drink and drive. Strict legal action will be taken against such offenders. Also, use of narcotics will not be tolerated and those caught intoxicated under the influence of drugs will be dealt with strictly."
Bharambe said, "Cops will be deployed near malls and restaurants to ensure that the citizens enjoying new year's even on December 31 night are not driving home in drunken state. Those caught consuming narcotics will be behind bars. Pubs and discotheques owners have been warned to ensure that the customers don't indulge in narcotics."
DCP zone-2 Pankaj Dahane said, "In zone-2, as many as 424 policemen will be deployed on the streets at 52 fixed points including the internal roads. The new year party organisers have been told to obtain permission for playing music systems and also liquor serving permission from the excise department. Also, they should ensure that no narcotics substances is served in their premises. Police is always there to help in case of any untoward incident."
