NAVI MUMBAI:
Shiv Sena leadership seems to have taken note of the resistance by some of their corporators towards veterans holding prominent posts.
As damage control, two first-time corporators, Rucha Patil and Deepali Sankpal, have been made members of the standing committee. Similarly, first-time corporator, Sanju Wade, has been nominated for Airoli ward committee chairman’s post.
“Corporators were upset that few veterans were repeatedly staking claim to prominent positions, giving no chance to newcomers,” said Vithal More, a senior party leader.
Twenty corporators had threatened to resign over key NMMC posts going to veterans. With five
Sena members completing tenure on May 1, the corporators wanted the party to give first-timers an opportunity.
In a last-minute decision, names of veterans, Saroj Patil and Ranganath Authi, were dropped. “I am deeply hurt. I should have been at least informed about the decision. I am contemplating my next move,” Patil said. The mayor on Wednesday declared the names of 7 corporators who will join the standing committee.
