NAVI MUMBAI: Six-and-half-foot tall Douglas Smith, a US citizen and founding member of the world pickleball body, was present at Happy Streets Navi Mumbai on Sunday, to encourage youth inclined towards the game. He was accompanied by Sunil Walavalakar, pickleball promoter in India.
“I love this new city, which is well planned, being transformed from villages to a cosmopolitan township.

People here are friendly and quite energetic. And pickleball is well appreciated by different genres here. I am here to promote fitness with family through pickleball and what could be better than using the platform provided at Happy Streets,” Douglas Smith told TOI.
Over a hundred yoga connoisseurs indulged in traditional suryanamaskar and various asanas. The rent free cycle station was overcrowded as many cycling buffs had to wait in the queues for their turn.
“Happy Streets has imbibed a new culture among residents to beat the lazy Sunday morning. I salute the concept of reclaiming streets,” said Vidyasagar, a Nerul resident.
Zumba was again a hit and kids were introduced to the traditional game of stapu-jumping. Stretching and workout sessions were conducted and many indulged in outdoor sports like badminton, pickleball, cycling, skating, hula-hoop and football.
