NOIDA: Around 15 farmers from the Kisan Ekta Manch were put under house arrest on Friday, a day after they announced that they will march towards Delhi through Kalindi Kunj.
The office bearers of the Kisan Ekta Manch were first put under house arrest in different areas, including Ecotech I, Rabupura, Dankaur and Jewar. As soon as the other members of the outfit got to know about it, they gathered at the houses of those placed under house arrest and sat there in
protest.
Kishan Nagar, district president of the outfit, said around 15 leaders, including the national president, state president and the in-charge of the women’s cell, were detained.
“Police reached the residence of the state president, Jatan Pradhan, at 5 am and put him under house arrest. Around 15 main office bearers, including seven in Dankaur, four in Greater Noida, one in Jewar and one in Noida, were under house arrest. Around 50 police officers led by ACP III (Greater Noida), ACP I and Ecotech station officer Rameshwar Singh had visited the leaders,” Nagar said.
ACP III Abdul Qadir said that the farmers were asked not to go to Kalindi Kunj because they had planned to block traffic there.
BKU-Bhanu members meet farmers on Singhu borderA delegation of farmers outfit BKU-Bhanu which is sitting in protest at the Chilla border on Friday went to meet their counterparts who are sitting in protest at the Singhu border and held a meeting with the other farmers where they paid their obeisance to deceased Sant Ram Singh who died of suicide over farmers’ distress.
The farmers said that they held discussions with the other leaders of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha and they have also decided to put a united front.
The BKU-Bhanu which the Sanyunkta Kisan Morcha had said was not part of the Morchaafter they decided to open the Chilla border last week, has also expressed solidarity with the other farmer outfits.
The farmers have said that the internal problems were a thing of the past.
State vice president of the outfit Dr Tarun Sharma said that the farmer outfits were united now and they went to express condolences with their counterparts sitting at the Singhu border over the demise of the saint Sant Ram.
