GHAZIABAD: A man on way to his marriage ceremony had a narrow escape as a power cable hanging loose from a pole electrocuted the horse he was riding in Ghaziabad’s Vijaynagar area on Friday.
Mohan Lal, the bridegroom, managed to jump off the horse as the animal went into a fit and collapsed. “A tragedy was averted because he had the presence of mind to jump,” a relative of Mohan Lal said.

“It shows utter callousness on the part of the electricity department and they should pay compensation to the horse owner,” he added. The accident happened around 5pm. Prakash, the owner of the horse, said, “I was walking a few paces ahead of the horse when I suddenly saw it was shivering violently. The horse collapsed and died within seconds.”
Devi Sharma, SDO, of Pratap Vihar substation, passed the buck to the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, saying the livewire was hanging loose because the civic body hadn’t fixed a faulty streetlight. “It is not our fault the street light is managed by the GNN,” he said.
