NOIDA: The UP transport department has issued a list of fare structures for buses and auto-rickshaws and directed the regional transport officials to enforce it so as to prevent drivers from charging random fares from the public.
The move follows an Allahabad high court order of July 31, based on a writ petition, directing the transport department to fix the fares and take action against errant auto and bus drivers.
The department has also been ordered to display the fare structures on all public transport vehicles and also at relevant public places in four weeks’ time. ARTO (administration) Rachna Yaduvanshi has been asked to send a primary report to the transport commissioner by August 17.
“The department has received a detailed fare structure of autos and buses. We will convene a meeting of the representatives of the auto, tempo, bus and other public transport vehicle unions on Thursday. We will discuss the ways of enforcing it,” said Yaduvanshi.
The petition was filed by an NGO, Lok Nayarth Sanstha.
