Ghaziabad: Snapdeal executive Dipti Sarna was not kidnapped by professional criminals, but by somone well known to her or the family, police said Saturday.
"It is completely certain at this stage of investigation that the kidnapping was not the handiwork of professional criminals. It is likely that someone very close to the family or Dipti herself was involved in the crime.
We are very close to nabbing the culprits," Ghaziabad SSP Dharmendra Singh told TOI.
Singh and other senior officers of the Ghaziabad Police questioned Dipti for close to one hour at her Kavi Nagar home in the morning, in presence of a family member. Cops had on Friday recorded Dipti's statement - in which she had narrated the entire ordeal that she underwent during her alleged kidnapping episode - soon after she reached home from New Delhi railway station. On Saturday, they posed a number of counter-questions to Dipti.
Police also corroborated claims made by the Sarna family that Dipti was found to be completely healthy and physically unharmed after she was released by her kidnappers on Friday. "A medical examination was conducted upon her. No injury was found upon her. She is completely unharmed," the SSP said.
Meanwhile, cops questioned several auto drivers plying on the Vaishali-Old Bus Stand route over the last two days. Not a single arrest has, however, been made so far, though a few persons were detained.
