BHAGALPUR: History, they say, repeats itself. Here, its part fiction, part reality. Bhagalpur, the setting to the Devdas-Paro tragic love affair and home to modern-day love guru Matuknath Choudhary, is in the spotlight with yet another love escapade that cuts across barriers of religion and age.
According to Nusrat Bano, the 19-year-old protagnist in this true life love tale, she is head over heels in love with her 53-year-old tutor.

"Its not an infatuation. I fell in love with him four years ago when I began taking tutions from Ramu.
"He is a complete man. Whatever be his age, he is like a young man to me, caring, chiding and loving," a candid Nusrat told TOI on Thursday. Both are residents of Alamgir village under Akbarnagar police station in Bhagalpur.
After sitting for the third matriculation examination having failed twice earlier, Nusrat decided to take the one test she knew she would succeed.
She eloped with her sweetheart after sitting for the final paper on Wednesday. "My father fixed my marriage with one of my cousins and had even withdrawn all deposits from my account on the sly. That's when Ramu asked me to leave the selfish relatives and pursue a relationship that was more meaningful," she reasoned.
At Dumka, the duo met advocate Binod Mandal to annoint their love with a legal sanction. But the latter refused to support the unusual match and tie them in matrimony.

"We nevertheless decided to consummate the relation," she said. But then why was she opposed to Jawed, the man her father had chosen? "He is an illiterate bus conductor. How can I sleep with a man, who has no qualms spending nights at the various roadside hotels," she shot back.
Nusrat, though, has no problems with Ramakant, a father of four children from his first wife. Ramakant, too, has no guilt conscience. "Love is God and what I have done is by His grace. During the 28 years I was married, I have never experienced care, love and pleasure as with Nusrat. Wo prem ki devi hai aur meri zindagi hai,"he said.
As soon as Ramakant's 26-year-old son Sanjay learnt about his father's escapade, he rushed to Dumka and got them back to Bhagalpur. There, the couple surrendered before DIG Raghunath Prasad Singh. When produced in court for Nusrat's abduction, Ramakant was sent to Bhagalpur Central Jail.
The duo's love affair has even sent secular leaders squirming. Mohammad Nisar, an RJD leader, fumed, "I am politically secular but if someone like Ramakant is playing with fire and will face dire consequences. Such acts can affect communal harmony." On March 28, the girls father registerd a case against the tutor under Sections 379 (theft) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
