Bhagalpur range cops get training in legal provisions, new criminal laws

Bhagalpur: Police officials of Bhagalpur and Banka districts, besides the Naugachia police district under Bhagalpur range, were imparted training about the legal provisions under new criminal laws at a training programme organised here on Wednesday. The training was imparted in association with the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) and National Informatics Centre (NIC), Patna.
Cops were provided awareness about electronic evidence (e-sakshya), Crime Control Tracking Network System (CCTNS), Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), and provisions in the new legal system of the country that replaced old criminal laws with three new legislations. These include Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-BNS (replacing the Indian Penal Code), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita-BNSS (replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam-BSA (replacing the Indian Evidence Act), which aim at modernising the criminal justice system to align it with present-day needs. The new laws became effective from 1 July 2024.
In a press communiqué, the Bhagalpur SSP Hriday Kant said the senior police officials, including the SSP, SPs, DSPs/SDPOs, and other police officials, present in the training. He said that police officials were also imparted training about registering a ‘Zero FIR' under CCTNS and Crime Multi Agency Center (Cri-MAC) and the steps to transfer the case/FIR from one police station to another via Zero FIR under CCTNS and Cri-MAC. The police officials also learnt to use the ICJS portal and the benefits of using the ICJS portal.
The trainers also issued instructions to the investigating officers (IOs) of the cases to undertake registration under the e-sakshya application and start using the e-sakshya within seven days of the training. The IOs also appeared in a test at the end of the daylong training.
