EOU raids yield food corpn official's assets worth lakhs

PATNA: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of state police on Friday raided various locations linked to Shishir Kumar Verma, assistant manager-cum-deputy general manager of Bihar State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case lodged against him. What surprised the raiding teams was that the official was spending one-fourth of his monthly salary on paying rent of a house where he stayed, reports
According to the EOU, the raids were conducted at Verma's Patna office and his residential premises here and Bettiah.

A senior EOU official said Rs 37,200 in cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 14 lakh were recovered from Verma's rented accommodation in Patna.
Besides, various investment papers, a car and several air tickets upon which Rs 4 lakh was spent were also recovered from Verma’s rented accommodation in Patna. Another EOU team raided Verma’s paternal house in Bettiah seized a car, three motorbikes, jewellery worth over Rs 11 lakh and documents of 34 land plots.
The official added Verma earned over Rs 45 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income during his seven years in service with the department. Currently, he is posted in Patna. “The earned income is 101% more than his known sources of income,” the official said, adding the raids were conducted after procurement of search warrants from the special vigilance court.
According to the information provided by the EOU, the official purchased six land plots worth over Rs 64 lakh in Patna, Bettiah and Noida. Apart from this, he has 11 bank accounts with a deposit of around Rs 4 lakh. “Prior to joining service, Verma had only Rs 11,000 in his bank account,” the EOU said. “He was spending around 25% of his total salary on paying rent of the house,” the official said, adding they would initiate further action against him after analysing the documents seized during the raids.
