In recent past, district officials in Gaya have been heavily depending on the civil society to establish harmony and the efforts have paid dividends. Only recently, Gayawal Pandas and madrassa operators opened their doors for members of other community during Pitrapaksha and Haj flights and the gesture got wide approval across the communities.
Besides static deployment, intensive patrolling will also be done during the extended Muharram period. The Muharram procession in Gaya is traditionally brought out on the second day of Pahlam marking the culmination of the Muharram rituals.
Earlier on Saturday, DM Sanjay Agrawal convened a meeting of the peace committee to involve citizens in the maintenance of peace and order. The DM cautioned the peace committee members and the general public against mischief makers and rumour mongers. Strict action will be taken against rumour mongers, the DM said.
Licences are issued for about 1,000 Muharram processions across the district. The organizers have been specially asked to maintain the conditions of licence including route, timing and avoid provocative verbal or physical action.
The DM has also asked the procession organizers to maintain live contact with the people in the processions through public address system and other means to make them aware of the terms and conditions on which procession licenses have been issued. The organizers will be held responsible for any violation of the terms of the license, the DM said.
