Gold chain snatched from Bihar MLA Rahul Kumar’s brother during morning walk; watch

PATNA: Motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from Rohit Kumar, brother of Jehanabad MLA Rahul Kumar from RJD, in Kankarbagh locality of the state capital on Friday morning.

The incident occurred while Rohit was returning home from a morning walk at Lohia Nagar Park. He was attacked barely 100 metres from his residence near Panchmandir.

Two men riding a bike and wearing helmets, who were lying in wait, suddenly came close and yanked the gold chain worth around Rs 3 lakh from his neck and fled.


Rohit, a native of Jehanabad and son of former JD(U) MP Jagdish Sharma, also suffered scratches on his neck. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop.

Rohit said, “When families of public representatives aren’t safe, one can imagine the state of security for common people.” He alleged that lack of regular police patrolling has emboldened criminals. “Morning walkers feel unsafe. Fear of police is vanishing among criminals,” he added.

The incident created panic among locals. Residents of the locality also alleged that chain snatching, theft and robbery cases are on the rise in the capital. They further alleged that police patrolling is absent in many areas in the morning and late night, which criminals take advantage of. They demanded regular police patrolling and arrest of the accused.

Abhay Kumar, Kankarbagh SHO, said, “Two miscreants were involved in the chain snatching. They have been captured on CCTV footage. We are trying to identify them and they will be arrested soon.”
