Gaya: Senior IPS officer Vikas Vaibhav on Tuesday assumed charge as inspector general (IG) of the Magadh Police Range, replacing Kshatranil Singh.
Known for his tough policing style, Vikas has taken over what is considered one of the most challenging field postings for an IG-rank officer. His appointment has drawn attention in police circles as he had not held any field posting during the past six years.
Soon after assuming charge, Vikas directed SHOs to register cases strictly under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and warned against dilution of charges, manipulation of records or misleading investigations.
“The police personnel of the region will have to earn the confidence of the people, particularly victims of crime,” Vikas said.
Addressing mediapersons later, he said implementation of the state govt’s zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals would remain his top priority.
“Justice will be done to all kinds of people without any bias or favour,” he said.
Recalling his earlier association with the region, Vikas said he had closely studied ultra-left extremist violence in Magadh during his probation period. He also referred to his role in investigating the 2013 Bodh Gaya serial blasts while serving with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which led to the arrest and conviction of those involved.
“Any delay in registration of cases and follow-up investigation will not be tolerated,” Vikas said.
He also directed police officers to show greater sensitivity towards senior citizens, NRIs and tourists. Earlier, he was accorded a guard of honour at the Circuit House on his arrival.
