Make new transfer policy for schoolteachers: CM
Patna: Women teachers in Bihar’s state-run schools are likely to be transferred to schools in neighbouring panchayats, while male teachers may be posted in adjacent blocks under a proposed transfer policy being prepared by the education department.
The decision was taken during a review meeting of the education department chaired by chief minister Samrat Choudhary at Sankalp Sabhagar in Lok Sevak Awas on Friday.
After the meeting, Samrat said the department had been directed to prepare a transparent transfer policy for teachers across the state.
Under the proposed framework, female teachers would be transferred, as far as possible, to panchayats adjacent to their home panchayat within their home block and district. Male teachers would be transferred to blocks adjoining their home block within the same district.
The proposed policy is expected to benefit more than seven lakh teachers working in 94,339 govt schools across Bihar.
According to the latest Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) data, Bihar has 7,07,516 schoolteachers, including 3,07,416 women teachers and 4,00,100 male teachers. Women teachers account for 43.45% of the total teaching workforce in the state.
Samrat said the Bihar govt was continuously working to ensure quality education for children across the state. He also announced that fresh recruitment of teachers in govt schools would begin soon.
As decided during the meeting, one lakh teachers would be appointed over the next five years, with nearly 20,000 teachers to be recruited annually. Recruitment advertisements will be issued every year in July, he said.
The chief minister also announced that school uniforms for students across Bihar would now be supplied through Jeevika, the govt-run network of women self-help groups.
He said the move would ensure timely supply of uniforms while strengthening women’s economic self-reliance.
Earlier, education secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal briefed the chief minister about the department’s current functioning and future plans.
Education minister Mithilesh Tiwari, principal secretary to the chief minister Deepak Kumar, secretaries to the chief minister Lokesh Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar Singh, director of secondary education Sajan Rajsekar and director of primary education Vikram Veerkar were present at the meeting.
