Patna: In a bid to boost tourist footfall, the state government will soon launch water sports activities and adventure rides at Amwaman Lake, a picturesque natural reservoir at Bettiah in West Champaran district. The Bihar State Tourism and Development Corporation (BSTDC) will carry out the project.
Parasailing, banana bumper, sofa bumper, jet skiing, floating jetty, speed boat, peddle boat, floating promenade and water sport facilities will be available at the lake soon on an experimental basis.
The lake area is being developed with an expenditure of Rs 14.61 crore. It will have facilities like restrooms, changing rooms, jetty (structure that projects from land out into water), play zone for kids, pedal boat for kids in small pond, food courts, kiosk of local artisans, sitting places and fountains.
Tourism minister Narayan Prasad said the pilot project would be launched soon. “All the boats and other equipment will reach Amwaman Lake in Bettiah by March 15 and it will be open for the public after the
Holi festival. Once these water sport activities are introduced in Bihar, people will not have to go to places like Goa and Chennai for recreation. They can easily enjoy these activities in their home state,” he said.
The minister said the managing director of BSTDC has been asked to make all the equipment available at the tourist site in Amvaman by March 15. “Work on beautification of the lake area will be completed in six months. This experiment will be a revolutionary step in the field of tourism with a new beginning for Bihar,” the minister said, adding the department will hire guides and trained rescuers for water sports activities.
According to sources, most equipment are being procured from Goa, Mumbai and Chennai.
Altogether 16 different rides and equipment have been procured, including parasail boat, floating jetty, 8-seater speed boat, 8-seater rescuer boat, kayaks, 10-seater and 4-seater passenger boats, jet attack, jet ski, zorbing ball, babana bumper, sofa bumper, big and small boats, life jackets and life rings.
