Opposition targets govt over medical aspirant death case
Patna: RJD and other opposition MLAs, led by MLA Bhai Birendra, on Thursday staged a demonstration in the portico of the state assembly before the House met, targeting the state govt over the recent death of a medical aspirant in Patna and other issues.
AIMIM MLAs, though not part of the RJD-led protest, also spoke against the rising incidents of crime, violence against women and girl students and the NEET student case.
AIMIM legislature party leader Akhtarul Iman questioned the govt’s failure to prevent alleged attacks on minorities in the state.
Meanwhile, leader of opposition in the legislative council, Rabri Devi, alleged a cover-up and the involvement of a minister or their kin in the medical aspirant death case.
Rabri alleged that the police carried out a whitewash in the case and handed it over to the CBI as some powerful people were involved. Rabri, along with other opposition MLCs, protested outside the Vidhan Parishad before the beginning of the House.
Later, various issues were raised in the Upper House of the state legislature. CPI(ML) MLC Shashi Yadav raised the issue of Bihar board students being denied entry to their examination for being two minutes late. Yadav said these students had to reach the centre after passing through a horrible traffic situation. “We have seen the videos of girl students pleading to let them enter, as they were denied the entry for being two minutes late. They were even badly treated, instead of being given a warning and an opportunity,” said Yadav.
Chairperson Awadhesh Narain Singh also raised concern over the matter. “This is a serious issue and needs to be discussed and sorted. For being five minutes late, career of a student cannot be ruined for a year,” said the chairperson.
MLC Neeraj Kumar, through a starred question, raised the issue of lack of public bus on the Mokama-Begusarai route. Kumar said the Aunta-Simiriya bridge was made functional and repair of Rajendra Setu bridge was also done, which improved connectivity. minister Shrawon Kumar, while replying, said the department was procuring 100 more buses and the problem on the said route would be solved.
