PATNA: The cultural spectrum of the country unfolded in the city on Tuesday as stage artists from different parts of the country danced to the tune of traditional instruments like dhol and tasha.

patna: the cultural spectrum of the country unfolded in the city on tuesday as stage artists from different parts of the country danced to the tune of traditional instruments like dhol and tasha. passersby on the city's streets watched the colourful procession of 600-strong stage artists spellbound. attired in their colourful and varied regional costumes, these folk artists performed spectacular dance items which easily reflected the regional flavours of the country.

the artists who have come from various parts of the country to perform at the five-day pataliputra natya mahotsava which began on february 2 and is to conclude on wednesday, presented an assorted number of items which enthralled the audiences. they have travelled from up, orissa, west bengal, assam, manipur and even from the relatively recent state of chhatisgarh to present their particular items. the team from motihari presented the item 'parivartan'. the folk dances performed included maniyaro and hundo ras of gujarat, folk dance forms of chhattisgarh and manipuri, braj ki holi nritya and adivasi folk dances. three plays were staged at kalidas rangalaya. the first play "ladki parhkar kya karegi" was staged by the mobile theatre of patna. the artistes performing in this play were from the slums of patna. a street corner play "sadgati" authored by munshi premchand was also staged. the last play "ganga" was based on pollution related problems.
