Trainee constable dies after collapsing during run in Rohtas
Sasaram: A trainee constable who fell ill after suffering a heatstroke during a training exercise at the police lines in Dehri died while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Patna on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Shri Ram Kumar, a resident of Chandpur village under Patori police station in Samastipur district.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during a 16-km training run, when as many as six trainee constables reportedly lost consciousness due to the scorching heat and heatwave conditions prevailing in the region. All the affected trainees were immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment. While most of them responded to medical care, Shri Ram Kumar’s condition remained critical.
Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was referred to AIIMS-Patna. Despite the efforts by doctors, he died while undergoing treatment. Following his death, the body was brought to Sasaram, where a team of doctors conducted the postmortem at the sadar hospital. Family members of the deceased also reached Sasaram after receiving information about the death.
Shri Ram Kumar was the younger of two brothers and had recently joined the police force as a trainee constable.
Confirming the incident, Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar said the trainee constable died due to heatstroke and heatwave-related complications suffered during the training run.
District disaster management officer Kumari Prerna said further action would be taken in accordance with departmental procedures.
