Woman accused of killing 8-yr-old boy in Nalanda detained
Patna: The woman, who was accused of killing an eight-year-old boy over an illicit affair with his father in Nalanda district, was detained by the police on Wednesday.
According to the boy’s family, the woman had threatened them about 10 days ago after accusing them of circulating her obscene photos and videos on social media. They also alleged that she was blackmailing the boy’s father and demanding money.
The deceased was identified as Ankit Kumar, son of Niranjan Kumar (35). Ankit went missing on January 12 evening after leaving home to play in Darriya Bigha village under Chandi police station. His body, with a rope tied around the neck, was recovered by villagers on January 13 morning.
Enraged family members and villagers blocked the Karauta-Rajgir Highway (NH-78) to protest the killing and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Hilsa DSP Shailja said, “The deceased’s family filed a missing complaint at Chandi police station on January 12 evening. After the body was recovered, they alleged that the woman was involved in the murder, as she, along with others, had threatened the family about 10 days ago. The woman has been detained for questioning.”
Police said Niranjan married about 10 years ago, and Ankit was born several years later. Niranjan worked in Nalanda before marriage but shifted to Patna after his son’s birth and started driving an auto. He lived alone in a rented house in Patna, visiting his wife and son in Nalanda every 2–3 months.
During his stay in Patna, Niranjan befriended the woman. They began chatting on social media, exchanged phone numbers, and soon met in person. In their first meeting, they expressed love for each other. Niranjan disclosed that he was married and had a son, but the woman said she had no objection. She then started visiting his rented house frequently. She is a native of Barh in Patna district.
Shailja added, “About 10 days ago, the woman arrived at Niranjan’s house with some people. A quarrel broke out between the two groups. The woman accused Niranjan of circulating private photos and videos on social media, while Niranjan’s family alleged she was extorting money through blackmail. A panchayat meeting was held to resolve the issue.”
The SDPO said the accused woman has confessed to the killing, but interrogation is underway to identify others involved. Further details will be shared with the media on Thursday.
