Worker dies of suffocation in Samastipur
Patna: A worker died and three others fell unconscious due to suffocation from toxic gas while removing construction materal at a septic tank in Samastipur on Monday. The incident took place in Shahru village under Shivaji Nagar police station area.
Villagers pulled all four out of the tank after much effort. They were taken to Shivaji Nagar Primary Health Centre, where one of them was declared dead. The other three were referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The deceased was identified as Paltan Thakur (60). The three who fell unconscious are Kanhai Mandal (30), from Baheri, and Jhilmil Das (50) and Ajay Gadha (45), from Shahru village.
According to police, Paltan recently constructed a tank in his old house. On Monday, he entered the tank along with mason Jhilmil and workers Ajay and Kanhai to remove the construction material. All four started losing consciousness one by one after entering the tank.
Shivaji Nagar SHO Ravindra Kumar said a police team was sent to the spot. “Further action is being taken based on statements of family members. The body was sent to sadar hospital for the postmortem,” he said.
