Security guard gets 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting, impregnating minor girl in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: A fast track court handling cases booked under the Prevention of Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 has sentenced a 26-year-old security guard to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl and impregnating her in Puducherry in 2020.
Fast track court judge V Sofana Devi slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the security guard, identified as L Romark Simon Jean from Duprayapet, Puducherry.The judge directed the Puducherry government to provide a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the rape survivor.
According to special public prosecutor S Patcheappan, the security guard working in a private firm befriended the minor girl and sexually assaulted her on several occasions when she was alone in her home. The minor girl became pregnant. Her pregnancy came to light only after the maximum limit (24 weeks) of medical termination of pregnancy. She gave birth to a baby girl in 2020.
Patcheappan said Romark Simon Jean is one of the accused in a murder case and is facing trial in another court.
