PUNE: Former assistant commissioner of police M.C. Mulani was on Saturday questioned by the anticorruption bureau (ACB), Mumbai, in connection with the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) scam.
Authorities at the Yerwada central jail, where Mulani is lodged, told TNN on Sunday that the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court had permitted the ACB to quiz Mulani on February 11.

"But, after the ACB officials told us that the interrogation would go on till late in the evening,we did not allow them to go ahead. After this, they came back on February 14." The authorities said the interrogation began at 10.30 am and went on till 4.30 pm.
Sources said the ACB team quizzed Mulani on his connection with former MPSC member Saylee Joshi, who has been arrested in the scam. Joshi allegedly helped Mulani’s two sons clear the exam.
The multi-crore-rupee scam involving malpractices in examinations held for police sub-inspectors, sales-tax officers and Mantralaya assistants, came to light in 1999, after several candidates complained of the unfair means used in the exams. The ACB has arrested 24 people, including former MPSC chairman S.D. Karnik.
Mulani was arrested by the special investigation team under MCOCA for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore-rupee fake stamp paper scam.
