aurangabad: the anti-encroachment drive to demolish 21,000 illegal structures resumed by cidco administration as per high court order gained momentum only because of the fact that 70 per cent of the common and middle classes came forward to remove their own structures voluntarily with due respect for the law. the cidco administration demolished 3919 structures which were on the public roads and open plots.
however, the cidco administration on tuesday moved a civil application to the aurangabad bench of the bombay high court praying that the drainage and service lines falling to the rear site of the tenements constructed for economically weaker section and low income group category may be excluded from the current demolition drive. a joint survey conducted by the employees of cidco and aurangabad municipal corporation (amc) had found that 3542 sheds were found on service lines and about 4300 encroachments on path ways, situated in dense population. the cidco administration expressed the fear that, if marginal encroachment is demolished, there is every possibility of collapsing the entire structure of the original tenements.
