pune: a pune police team is in mumbai to track down the gang that they believe supplied counterfeit currency notes for circulation in pune. the pimpri police had unearthed the racket on saturday and arrested four persons on saturday and two on sunday. one of those arrested, javed sheikh, was believed by the police to have connections in mumbai who supplied him with the counterfeit currency additional commissioner of police (crime) s.m.
mushriff said that, "according to primary estimates, some rs 6 lakh fake notes were in circulation over the last three months". he said that agents of javed would visit various shops in the khadki-pimpri area and ask for change for the fake rs 500 note thus getting the counterfeit money into circulation. mr mushriff did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of the pakistani intelligence agency, the isi, in the case.
