The BJP dominated major urban corporations, sweeping Pune Municipal Corporation with 116 seats and retaining control in Pimpri Chinchwad. It also secured power in Navi Mumbai for the first time, winning 65 seats, a sharp rise from six in 2015.
While Shiv Sena and NCP factions struggled in several cities, individual victories stood out, including a large-margin win in Thane. The elections also sparked controversy with the victory of an accused in the Gauri Lankesh murder case as an Independent candidate in Jalna.
