PUNE: The exercise for re-accreditation of the University of Pune (UoP) will enter a crucial phase when a multi-member peer team of the National assessment and accreditation council (Naac) will be on a three-day visit to the varsity from December 20.
Director of UoP's Board of college and university development (BCUD), Wasudev N Gade, told TOI on Friday, "The Naac has confirmed the dates for the peer team's visit."
The visit holds significance from the viewpoint of an on-site validation of the self-assessment reports furnished by the UoP vis-?-vis overall academic and allied performance for the period between 2002-03 and 2009-10.

Usually, the rating takes into consideration seven key criteria, viz. the curricular aspects; teaching and learning evaluation; research consultancy and extension; infrastructure and learning resources; student support and progression; organisation and management; and global best practices.
The UoP was last accredited by Naac in 2002 for the highest five star' rating, based on the progress since the year of its inception in 1948 till 2002. The rating was valid for a five-year term till 2007.
However, the process for filing of the re-accreditation report with Naac got delayed due to the varsity going through the phase of leadership transition at critical points.
The then vice-chancellor Ashok Kolaskar completed his term in February 2006, following which senior bureaucrat Ratnakar Gaikwad was appointed officiating V-C till August 2006. Gaikwad was succeeded by Narendra Jadhav as full-time V-C.
It was only towards the end of 2009 that the UoP finally submitted a voluminous report on its performance from 2002 to 2007 with the Naac while seeking the re-accreditation. The Naac later got the UoP to file supplementary reports for another two years, i.e. 2008 and 2009.
